about

[coronavirus archival drop #4]

file under “it seemed like a good idea at the time,” this is what happens when you take too long to finish a song and then second-guess your intentions in the first place. as in taking so long to “get it right" that the thing i was writing about became uninteresting in the interim. not my worst tune, though.

when i started writing this song lena dunham was still a huge nerd, and romantically unattached. the “boyfriend” the protagonist is referring to is her tv one (adam sackler). everyone always assumes my songs are first-person, and part of why i chickened out on this song was because people would think i was somehow throwing shade at her real-life boyfriend, a bad-ass songwriter in his own right.

but i hear she’s single again.
